55 Word Challenge
Week Thirty-four
Frustrated Sarah |
#55WordChallenge this week is being judged by my daughter, Sarah Sprague. The artwork is hers… she’s talented, I know. She is a Senior in High School and studying Multi Media. She is thinking about a career in animation and I am sure she can do it. She can do anything. Ok, mama proud moment done. Moving on…
For those that are uninitiated, the 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. Not an easy task, but fun and I have been blown away by some of the entries. See for yourself, all the past contests can be found here.
Zombie Sarah |
The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon Thursday. The story is based on one of three (four this week) photo prompts and can be written in any genre you choose. Stipulations: NO PORN. Also, per Sarah’s request… she doesn’t want anything that kills off babies or children. She says if you want to slaughter teens and adults that is fine. Isn’t she funny?
The story is to be posted in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or email address, so I can contact you if you are the winner. If you don't want to list your email address, send it to me at jezri@writing.com. I promise I won't distribute it, but if you are the winner I need a way to notify you and to send you your prize.
Thoughtful Sarah |
And what does the winner get? This purty badge for one. For two, a gift card for $5.00 from Amazon. The prize will be rewarded within about week or so, (sometimes I run a bit behind) and sent to your email. Also, I will be offering a monthly prize to the story I liked the best between the winners. Octobers winner was @BlanchardAuthor.
Magnets will get mailed out this week. I am making a trip to the post office Thursday. If you are on the list to get a magnet and have not sent a maling address, send it to jezri@writing.com. If you send it after I have mailed the magnets out you will still get a magnet, you will just have to wait until the next time I go to the post office.

ReplyDeleteMalthusian Cruise Lines' flagship, "Pavlov - I," set out on its epicurean evening excursion. Aboard, the fully-booked luxury liner, the all-senior complement of passengers awaited a sumptuous meal under the bright full moon on the open sea.
The bell rang and all of the passengers assembled for the dinner...
...of the all-werewolf crew.

Play With Me
ReplyDeleteShe comes every night with her hollow eyes, clutching the bright ball in her transparent slender hands. She is no more than a mist, and I know she can’t hurt me physically, but all the same, I want her gone. She is the only reminder left of my Jenine.
“Play with me, Daddy,” she whispers.

POWERS
ReplyDeleteThe night the stars fell to earth people changed. Sera had been in front of her mirror that night, primping for a date. Now whenever she needed she found extra of herself on hand.
Even the dead rose from their graves with powers as mysterious as the effected living. At least ghost busting paid well.

Everybody's A Critic
ReplyDeleteLeafing through David’s drawings, Calista told him his work was “cartoonish” and “amateur”. He softly whispered to her that someday she’d be very sorry she’d mocked him.
She didn’t know how he’d done it but, living out her existence as the ghostly image on page 37 of his sketchbook, she was, admittedly, very sorry indeed.

A million mirrors or are they fears,
ReplyDeleteThe stars I stare, aware
A billion suns
Mind undone
Where or when or why
Have I lost or have I won
flesh it rots a mist become
drifting forgetting I am done
am I many or am I one

Witch's Thanksgiving
ReplyDelete“Starry, starry night…” she sang as she stirred the cauldron. “Broken bones and gelatinous goo… Sticky guts stuck on my shoe…”
She lifted one foot to check her Manolo Blahniks. “Eyeballs cooked so sweetly right.”
She smiled at her visiting family slavering over her tasty victim stew. She sighed happily. Gotta love goblins.

Gazing at the stars, I nudged Amil.
ReplyDelete“Will we ever make it up there?”
“We, you and me?”
“No. Humans. We, you and me, certainly won’t.”
As soon as I said it several stars flared and I suddenly had a feeling we weren’t alone anymore.
Then a voice said, “What if I could change that?”

@JXilon
Last night I swear I saw the moon combust in meteors. A banshee caught the blue debris. Her words were echoes but they said, "Now... I'm at rest." I offered to still seek revenge. She screamed; I knew I shouldn't have brought it up. When she disappeared, I hoped she had a chance at peace.

The stars glittered like crystals strewn across black velvet. The explosions started one at a time, flaring brightly in the midnight sky.
ReplyDeleteThey spread, like fireworks in the finale. Gaping holes of darkness were left behind after the flashes faded.
It was the end of the worlds as everyone knew it, reshaping into something different.

Dawn Dance
ReplyDeleteBright moonlight teasing her lids woke her. After dressing in black velvet pants with layers on top she ventured out into the dawn chill. Stepping into cold damp sand with bare feet negated the need for caffeinated coffee later. Leaving S tracks behind, she sashayed and danced goodbye moon and hello sun.
