#55WordChallenge Week Eleven: Tears Of The Innocent

For those that are uninitiated, the 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. Not an easy task, but fun and I have been blown away by some of the entries. See for yourself, past contests can be found here. The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon the following Tuesday. Winners will be posted Wednesday. The story is based on one of three photo prompts. My only request is no porn. I don't want to hear graphic details. If it is erotic, make it titillating, not obscene. I know that can be done and done well.

I am no longer requiring that the story be posted in the comment section below, although you can if you choose. Instead, post the story in your blog, then post a link in the comment section, along with your twitter handle or email address, so I can contact you if you are the winner. Again, if you don't have a blog, feel free to post in the comment section. On Wednesdays I will post the winning stories in the blog post.

And what does the winner get? How about a badge, right sidebar,) which can proudly be displayed on your blog or website? There are 3, a Winners badge, an Honorable Mention and an Overachiever badge. To be eligible for the Overachiever Badge, you need to use all 3 prompts. And here we go...

  1. Here is a link to my entry, and the entry itself just in case! I've tried to use all three prompts, it's exactly 55 words, and my email address is coryeadson.derby.uni@hotmail.co.uk Evermore_Evil is my Twitter handle...

The garden was weeping. Branches drooped and leaves sagged in the downpour, grey clouds hiding heaven from view.

Thomas sat down in the mud by a long-forgotten toy truck, giving the plastic roof a pat.

“I know how you feel,” he said to it, with wisdom beyond his years.

    And then he faded away.

  3. Nylea stretched as the bright sun shown down. Her bones creaked and she chuckled. One could say she was getting old but that was part of life. The aches and pains as well as the good feelings. She ran a hand through her hair, rustling it. Long limbs stretched and she looked at her forest.

  4. Injustice

Ethan stood at his crying wall, bemoaning the injustice of it all. He had only left his toy truck out a short while and now a tree had grown up through it.

    It was so unfair.

“Perhaps,” the low rumbling voice of the wall surprised him. “You shouldn’t have left your toys out so long.”

  6. The trees arched overhead, foreboding and dark in the gloom of the forest; only whispers and sadness carried on the breeze, drifting high and swirling like ghosts through the canopy.
Now, decades on, the couple stared through red-rimmed eyes and bent their frail joints to touch the truck entwined in roots, their son’s last memorial.

  8. Ok, here is mine... just for the fun of it.

    Perseverance

I almost missed the truck, hidden among the trees. The paint was worn from neglect. The weeds pulled at the toy as I tried to lift it from the ground.

My perseverance was rewarded when Thomas’ eyes lit up for the first time since our home was destroyed. Now if only our world would recover.

  10. Tyler found himself alone at the entrance to what was now the haunted garden of his youth, standing, in silence, leaning against an old, weathered stone wall, he had helped to build along with his faithful truck, hauling stones for the workers but he simply couldn't enter, afraid he had outgrown all his childhood toys.

  12. Jacob feels the cold stone wall, his tiny fingers tracing the shape of his lost toy truck, Johnny. “Johnny is lonely.” He sobs.

In the forest, Johnny’s wet tears, potent with love, haunt the arid branches. A wave of soft murmur runs through the forest. The branches embrace Johnny.
The forest comes alive with green.
