The 55 Word Challenge Week 2

The 55 Word Challenge
Week 2

This week’s challenge brings a new prize. The winner gets a copy of one of my E-Books, (winners choice) and a Winners Badge. The rules are simple, write a story based on one of the pictures in 55 words or less. All genres welcome. Post it in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or writing.com handle, or another way for me to contact you, if you are chosen as the winner. (email addy works great.)
The contest begins at Noon on Wednesdays and closes at Noon on Thursdays, Eastern time.  If you missed last week’s contest, you can find it here and the winners list here. Last week I gave a $5.00 Amazon gift card to the winner. Once I start getting more entries I may do a gift card again, maybe one from Barnes and Noble or somewhere else. So spread the word! And don’t be afraid to give it a try. 55 words is challenging, but not impossible.

  1. “They were quite romantic, Helen and Dick. You could feel it, they filled the room with love. They lived life. Did they survive?”

Shanna wrapped her fingers around the lamp, smiling at the emotions she felt. “They did,” she answered. Even objects had memories, no matter how deeply they had been buried by the sea.

  2. An Argument Long Standing

Evelyn hesitated before speaking her mind.
“I’ll say no more than this, Charles. Our anniversary is soon and seventeen dollars. Seventeen...bloody…dollars!”

Charles snarled, “I’ve NOT forgotten April 15th is coming and had I known we’d be 100 years on this barge, I’d have sprung for the damnable cabin upgrade! Now, give it a rest already!”

  3. The dogs ran along the streets, wild and untamed. The virus spread like wildfire, it seemed to be selective. Some people were affected, others not. The only thing that could be figured were those people who really were dogs in life. Men who acted like it, became it.

Life really had gone to the dogs.

  4. “So, do you want to run with them?”

“Hmmm, it could be fun, but I don’t know.”

“I’m with you. It just isn’t the same.”

“Were you ever here before they changed it?

“Once, and it was a real adrenaline rush, but THIS?”

“Yeah, the damned lawyers’ concern over liability ruined everything.”

    “Well, adiós, Pamplona.”

Deanna sat at the crossing as the train went by, crawling at a snail’s pace. The beds of the convoy contained precious cargo meant to protect soldiers, like Deanna’s son. Waiting for the train to pass, she prayed for his safety. An explosion derailing the train reminded her how close the war on terror was.

  8. THE SIGNALS

We knew for sure that we'd never leave Fayetteville again when the tanks rolled in.

It's not like the road blocks weren't scary, but we thought that they (and the police) were for protection. They were for containment.

The sickness was evident from the hazmat suits.

In the end our darkness was buried in whiteness.
