#55WordChallenge Week Seven 2014

Welcome back to #55WordChallenge!

For those that are uninitiated, the 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. Not an easy task, but fun and I have been blown away by some of the entries. See for yourself, past contests can be found here. The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon Thursday. The story is based on one of three photo prompts. My only request is no porn. I don't want to hear graphic details. If it is erotic, make it titillating, not obscene. I know that can be done and done well.

The story is to be posted in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or email address, so I can contact you if you are the winner.
And what does the winner get? Besides bragging rights and this badge, which can proudly be displayed on your blog or website? The Winner, Overachiever and Honorable Mention will each get a digital copy The Bloody Book of Grotesque Love. The winner will also get the paperback copy.

I also have 2 additional badges,  An Honorable Mention and an Overachiever badge. To be eligible for the Overachiever Badge, you need to use all 3 prompts.

If anyone is interested in contributing a prize, a book, cover art, whatever you want, let me know and we will work something out. If you are an artist that would like to have your work featured, let me know!

 And here we go... I am tired of winter... so Spring is the theme.

Winner 55 Word Challenge: Week six 2014

Ok, I only had 3 entries in the last challenge, but that's my fault. I've been a bit absent lately... I even failed this month on my Women of Horror posts. Sickness took over the Hollar Household and anyone with a small child knows a week of barfing... and other things, can be draining. Then I was sick. It wasn't fun. I even missed the last challenge. But I am back and I am going to try to be a better blogger and even post some more interviews in a few days.

Now, on to the winners.

 Honorable Mention:
 @bullishink: I loved this! Love is so many things that people don't realize.

Honorable Mention:
@LurchMunster I am really enjoying your serial.

Winner:
 @SarahAisling

Sarah, this sent chills through me. Well done!

"Man in the Mirror"

When Katie told Dave she was leaving, he took it well. She finalized plans, packing her things and Daniel's.

A horn sounded out front—their cab.

Katie froze, realizing her error when she entered the bedroom. Daniel's innocent eyes met hers over Dave's shoulder. Dave's cunning ones met hers in the mirror. She was going nowhere.

Okay, what I need is email addresses to send the gift copy of Love's Peripeteias to.  Sarah, you win the paperback copy, so I need an mailing address for that.

Honorable Mentions:

@drmagoo
@jmnumber6

Overachiever and Winner:

@AdamIckes was my favorite. He used all three prompts, too.

 A discolored arm pushed through the well manicured lawn of Coshocton County Cemetery. Leroy pulled his decaying body out of the pit with great effort. Thoughts of Claire ran through his liquefying brain. He'd waited three years for her to say yes and wasn't about to let a little thing like death ruin their date.

55 Word Challenge: Week Five 2014

Welcome back to #55WordChallenge!

Since this is Women In Horror Month, this week we have a guest judge, Jaime Johnesee. Her book, Bob The Valentine has just been published with VPC. It is a fun book for this time of year and works perfectly with this weeks prompt... Zombie Dating in Haunted America.

The story is to be posted in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or email address, so I can contact you if you are the winner.
And what does the winner get? Besides bragging rights and this badge, which can proudly be displayed on your blog or website? The Winner, Overachiever and Honorable Mention will each get a digital copy of Jaime's book, Bob The Valentine. The Winner will also get the paperback version of Bob, which will be out shortly.

But that's not all! Everyone that enters will get a digital copy of my book, The Second Wave: A Post_Apocalyptic Tale, which takes place in my hometown of Lima, Ohio.

This weeks prompt is Haunted Ohio. The 2nd two pictures are from the TB hospital in my hometown, Lima. The hospital is haunted, or so I am told... and seeing these pictures, I can believe it. The first picture, I'm not sure...

Photo Prompt:

Be sure to include a zombie, dating and something about Haunted Ohio.

Woodland Cemetery, Dayton Oh.

Picture is from Haunted Cave in Lewisburg Ohio

Waiting area in abandoned TB Hospital, The Ridges, Athens Oh.

Winner 55 Word Challenge: Week Four 2014

Well it has been quite a week... a lot of snow, headaches and kids running around screaming. Oh the horror! However I have settled on the winners. There were a few late entries, but since I am running late announcing, I decided to let them stand.

Honorable Mention:

Chasity M Conley: I loved the poetic form and it was so eerie. I could easily imagine the scene.
Overachiever:

@PurpleQueenNLGreat use of all 3 prompts!
Winner:

AtreyeeI am glad you found your way to our challenge. This was a great story!

Laura shivered. The hospital really looked dead! Even the staff seemed sinister. But she needed the story for her magazine “Haunted Ohio”. She followed the Doctor inside and felt herself choking.. As her abandoned mortal body turned blue on the cold floor, her spirit floated in that dilapidated, dank corridor along with other ghostly apparitions.

Ok, week 5 will be posted shortly. I have another special theme and a prize.
