55 Word Challenge: Week Fifteen

55 Word Challenge
Week Fifteen

It’s time again for the 55 Word Challenge. This week Rebecca Clare Smith, AKA @jocastalizzbeth, and host of #SatSunTails, is judging.  Rebecca is a UK writer of urban fantasy & her county's youngest lollipop lady. Life is reading, writing, 4 cats & 2 Westies..

For those that are uninitiated, the 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. Not an easy task, but fun and I have been blown away by some of the entries. See for yourself, all the past contests can be found here.

The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon Thursday. The story is based on one of three photo prompts and can be written in any genre you choose. My only request is no porn. I don't want to hear graphic details. If it is erotic, make it titilating, not obsene. I know that can be done and done well.

The story is to be posted in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or email address, so I can contact you if you are the winner.

And what does the winner get? This purty badge for one. For two, a gift card for $5.00 from Amazon. (The prize will be rewarded within a week and sent to your email.)

Photo Prompt:

Okay, most important, have fun!

Bites of Terror contains 5 of my favorite stories from 5 different collections. It is a good sampling of my work for those unfamiliar with what I write. Only .99 cents.

Winner 55 Word Challenge: Week 14

Winner 55 Word Challenge
Week Fourteen

It was a tough choice, trying to sort through all of the stories. Great batch of writers joined us for #55wordchallenge and made my job that much more difficult. I decided to stick with the ones that had me coming back for more. After reading through all of them they had the hook factor that reminded me to take another look. So here they are!Honorable Mentions:
"See, kid, I told you... That dog is up to no good. You have to go tell your mom."
"But, Fluffy, Mom said to stay outside and leave her alone unless it's an emergency." He explained, adjusting his hat nervously.
"This is an emergency, kid. That dog is eating my Fancy Feast!"

52 words
@BethanyLopez2 – This one had me laughing and I loved it! When Fluffy’s food is in peril the only option is changing the status to code red and sounding the alarms! After the Fancy Feast!
With the words chanted three times, the spell was cast.
Angelica could only wait in darkening wood, hoping her magic wouldn’t fail her this night.
For tonight, on the eve of the longest day, she planted the seed that would soon mature and fester until it had grown into the thing she most desired.
Revenge.

55 words
@michelawalters – What type of magical revenge is Angelica plotting? When did her magic fail her before? So many questions and I want to know more. Great story.

"I told you there was something fishy about your mum," Snowball says, tail twitching.
Duffy flicks the cat's whiskers. "Don't see nothin' strange."
"Kid, your mum is wearing mouse ears."
"Yeah, 'cuz she was a Mouseketeer."
"And what is that, exactly?"
He tugs his cap. "Don't rightly know. Criminy. You think she's the company rat?"

55 words
@bullishink – This one made me laugh and I think I re-read the story at least three times. Company rat, indeed.

Winner:
Standing on the wet curb, I could see the tower. Its lights reached the ground even from there, glistening on the pavement in a dancing myriad, as ever changing and fickle as I am.
I told him to meet me at the tower. But I’d never show. And he’d never know why.
Neither would I.
55 Words
@J_M_Blackman - Reminds me a bit of the Deborah Kerr movie and it made me want to know more. Why would she not be at the tower? Did she get hit by a car? But what sold me the story more than just the questions it created was the beauty in the imagery that was created. Dancing lights on the wet pavement and staring at the tower whether it was longingly or nervously, I suppose we’ll never know.

Thank you to our judge, @theglitterlady! She did an awesome job. And thank you all for the wonderful entries. Jalisa is now a two time champion of #55WordChallenge. Maybe I should come up with a special prize for those that accomplish this. :-) In the meantime, I think I still have your email addy, so your prize will be on its way by the end of the week.

Winner 55 Word Challenge: Week 13

Winner 55 Word Challenge
Week 13

Honorable Mentions:
@michelawalters  I like the detail that went into this, his weight, his breathing, the obsessive love along with verbal abuse and then the unknown…ready to do what was necessary. I wasn’t sure if she was going to slit his throat or cut a little lower.
@tollykit This story was delicious, in more ways than one. I wasn’t sure if the wolf was the betrayer or the weapon used to kill the betrayer, but the last line cinched this one for Honorable mention.
@J_M_Blackman  I loved the twist at the end of this story. A unique way to ensure faithfulness and it would seem, leave the other party aware, at least momentarily.

And the Winner is…

@MLGammella  The setup was perfect. What I liked was how she let him think everything was okay, only to let him have it in the end. Here’s her story.

 Bloody Reunion

He thought the heat from my skin was passion. He thought the tension in my body was from pleasure. He thought he knew me.

He didn’t.

He also didn’t know I saw him with my sister. He’d come tonight, but for the last time. I’d get my revenge with his blood flowing across my hands.

55 Word Challenge: Week 13

55 Word Challenge
Week 13
It’s time again for the 55 Word Challenge. It is also Jeff’s and my anniversary today, so todays theme is love…with a twist. As you all know, love can be romantic, but it can also be jealous, murderous and even insane. It also comes in different forms. So today’s prompts can include one or more of these elements, based upon the photo prompts provided. This week I am providing two additional photos to help spark your muse.

Ok, now go write and have some fun!

Shameless Promo:

My two latest short stories, both available for .99 cents.

Blood Lust

Six year old Nicki finds an old doll in the attic. Soon she is behaving oddly, spending most of her time alone in her room. Her mother worries that she is having trouble dealing with the death of her pet cat, while her father thinks she will be fine and will learn to deal with the loss. The truth is far worse than either imagine. Nicki has been cutting herself to feed the doll, who has an insatiable appetite for blood.Terrorized by her new 'friend', Nicki is trapped in a nightmare, unable to tell anyone what Susie is making her do, because as the doll demonstrated with her cat, she is fully capable of killing.

The Second Wave: A Post-Apocalyptic Tale

A young woman, Fran, seeks refuge from the cold in an Ohio farmhouse. Wanting to forget the past several months and the horror she has witnessed, she convinces herself that she is safe, at least for the moment. Relaxing and enjoying the winter scene, she falls asleep and wakes to a new nightmare. Soon she learns that what happened at the beginning of the Zombie Apocalypse wasn't the worst of it. There was more to the virus that created the monsters that now ruled the earth. The infection was mutating and what was coming next may mean the end for all those left alive.

Honorable Mentions:

@blanchardauthor The unknown was what I loved about this. The door and the speculation of what might be on the other side and the willingness to step in, faith that it might be Heaven.

@DavidALudwig I think David Ludwig must be slightly evil. I love it.

@solimond  Very nicely written. Makes me wonder how often they’ve had this conversation.

Winner:

@SiobhanMuir  Not only did this make me laugh, but it made me want to read more. See for yourself.

Zerilka strode through the forest, her legs swishing through the heavy skirts. The new dress made her feel like a princess.
A princess being stalked.

Footsteps dogged her own, but each time she looked back, nothing followed.
At last she caught the flicker of a horn and a silver tail.

“Dammit! I’m not a virgin!”
