55 Word Challenge: Week Nineteen

55 Word Challenge
Week Nineteen
Welcome back to the #55WordChallenge. What? You've never heard of the 55 Word Challenge? You say you are new to this blog...or just been busy doing other things? Well, let me tell you, you are in for a treat!

For those that are uninitiated, the 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. Not an easy task, but fun and I have been blown away by some of the entries. See for yourself, all the past contests can be found here.

The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon Thursday. The story is based on one of three photo prompts and can be written in any genre you choose. My only request is no porn. I don't want to hear graphic details. If it is erotic, make it titillating, not obscene. I know that can be done and done well.

The story is to be posted in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or email address, so I can contact you if you are the winner. If you don't want to list your email address, send it to me at jezri@writing .com. I promise I won't distribute it, but if you are the winner I need a way to notify you and to send you your prize.

And what does the winner get? This purty badge for one. For two, a gift card for $5.00 from Amazon or from Barnes & Noble. (The prize will be rewarded within a week and sent to your email.)

  1. “Wanna do something?” Lee looked at Tom.

“We are doing something,” Tom replied. “We’re watching.”

Once a proud loner, beholden to none, one fateful day left Tom unexpectedly responsible for a young life he hadn’t even helped make.

Hunting for two was taxing, but maybe in time Lee could learn to work the can opener.

  2. Memorial

It was supposed to have been his sixteenth birthday present. His parents had bought it as a surprise, hiding it behind the old barn. The drunk driver ended the dream. Now he stares through the veil at what could have been, his mother’s bouquet a silent testament of love for him.

  3. We hated that car, but he loved it. We saw a demon, its grill a mouth poised to devour. He saw his savior. How ironic that he died there. But now it sits as a constant reminder, for none of us are brave enough to approach it. It waits for its prey.

  4. “I’m in here,” she called from the kitchen. Chocolate was everywhere. She was in the middle of it all. Naked. A stream of chocolate running from her mouth, down her chin, almost to her chest. “I wanted to make something chocolate for you.” She pouted. “I failed.” I skipped dinner that night for desert...

  5. Like this, his father said and the boy shifted his arm and changed his pose.

Like this, his father said and the boy blinked and changed his eyes.

Like this, his father said and the boy breathed out his human self and breathed in his cat.

Like this, his father rose and the kitten followed.

  6. He hands her the truck keys. “Your granddaddy had me take it off the estate records to keep it safe for you.”

She eyes him. “You broke the lawyer’s creed for me?”

He smiles. “An apology for breaking your heart all those years ago.”

“It’s a start. Throw in dinner and we’ll see what sparks.”

  7. She looked out the window, and smiled. Her dad’s old red truck gleamed in the sunshine; better than any limousine.

Suddenly her mum was beside her, eyes bright with unshed tears. “You look beautiful. I wish your father could have seen you.”

Sue turned and hugged her. “It’s OK Mum. I’m sure he’s watching.”

  8. “We have it good, kid. Three square meals a day, the bigger ones waiting on us hand and foot. This is the life. I know you won’t say anything because you don’t understand. Just keep it like that, okay?”

The little boy grinned and pet the cat hard. “Kitty.” Giggle.

    A heavy sigh. “Yes, kitty.”

  9. The Call Of the Hunt

Jacob, his expression a mixture of boredom and confusion, looked down on his friend Buttons, “Dude, it’s a bird. So what? Can we like, I dunno, go find something interesting to do?”

Not averting his rapt gaze, Buttons hissed, “Leave whenever you wish to, boy. As for me, I shall stalk my prey relentlessly.”
